The Transylvania Men's Tennis team improved to 6-9 overall and 3-1 in HCAC play with a 6-3 win over
Rose-Hulman Thursday. The win marked the first victory over Rose-Hulman since the 201 season.
Arjun Gupta and
Chris Kaufmann, freshly recognized with an NCAA Region VI doubles ranking, started
the scoring with an 8-2 win at #1 doubles.
Alejandro Perez Canedo and
Jared Wells continued the hot
start for the Pioneers with an identical 8-2 score at #3. The Fighting Engineers closed the gap to 2-1 with
an 8-2 win of their own at #2 doubles, leaving the Pioneers three courts from a victory.
Playing his ninth match at #1 singles in his first year,
Chris Kaufmann recorded the first blow in singles
with a 6-2, 6-2 win. Kaufmann, who was also ranked in the NCAA Region VI singles rankings released
today, recorded his team leading 19 th singles win of the 2022-2023 campaign.
Jared Wells finished next
at #6 singles, winning his match 6-2, 7-5 to put the Pioneers one match from a team victory. Eli Skaggs
provided that victory at #3 singles, winning 4-6, 6-4, 6-0 to clinch the match for Transy.
The remaining singles matches were played to completion, with
Alejandro Perez Canedo dropping his
match at #4 singles 6-4, 6-4.
Jordan Cordrey, playing at #5, dropped a three set match 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 to
leave senior
Arjun Gupta the last match playing. Gupta completed the 6-3 win with a hard fought 6-4, 2-
6, 6-4 win at #2 singles.
The Pioneers have a quick turnaround, playing at Manchester on Saturday, April 15 in their next HCAC
match.
