The Pioneers managed to work their way into a Sunday win against Hanover College. Luke
Patton took the ball for the Pioneers and managed to keep the Pioneers in the game through some
sloppily played defense behind.
Transy managed to steal a run in the bottom of the 2 nd inning on a double steal by Caleb
Bowers and
Zach Forner. However, Hanover managed to scratch that run back in the top of the 3 rd .
The back and forth continued into the bottom of the frame as
Trent Pahl led off the frame with a
walk and advanced to 3 rd on a single by
Trent Youngblood.
Calvin Schubert delivered with a sacrifice
fly to right field.
Hanover worked their way to two runs in the top of the fourth on three Pioneer errors to
take the lead 3-2 which is where the game remained until the bottom of the 7 th . The Pioneers
managed to explode for six runs on four hits, none bigger than
Austin Taylor's one out, two-strike
grand slam into the visitors' bullpen. The Pioneers loaded the bases again in the 7 th for Braden
Becker who drove a run in on a fielders' choice to the shortstop.
The 8-3 lead was more than plenty for reliever
Matt Armstrong as he pitched the final 3 2/3
while giving up one run and striking out 5.
The win moves Transy to 10-4 in conference play.
Coach Getsee had this to say after the series:
"Once again, we managed to deliver a conference series win without putting our best foot forward.
But, no one has ever complained about winning 2 of 3 in the HCAC. We need to put some gas back in
our tanks this week so we can keep moving forward"
