The #2 seeded Transy Men's Tennis team advanced to tomorrow's HCAC tournament final with a 5-0 win over the #3 seeded Rose-Hulman Fightin' Engineers. This marks the first time the Pioneers have participated in the tournament's final since the 2015-2016 season.
The Transy team got out quickly in the doubles competition. Arjun Gupta and Chris Kaufmann completed their match first, winning 8-3 at the #1 spot. Alejandro Perez Canedo and Jared Wells followed quickly with an 8-1 win at #3. The Pioneers took a 3-0 lead after Jordan Cordrey and Eli Skaggs won 8-3 at #2, providing momentum for the singles matches.
Kaufmann, who was tabbed both the HCAC Rookie of the Year and Player of the Year as well as First Team All HCAC, took down his counterpart 6-2, 6-0 at #1 singles. Jordan Cordrey clinched the match for Transy with a 6-4, 6-3 win at #5. This gave Transy an insurmountable 5-0 lead and the remaining matches were suspended.
Tomorrow's final will be contested against #1 seed Hanover College at 10:00 AM at Top Seed Tennis Club.
