Box Score The combination of late inning three spots and stellar pitching out of the bullpen
allowed the Pioneers to pull out game 1 of the three game series against Mount St. Joseph.
Playing at the University of Cincinnati,
Trent Pahl got the offense off to an electric
start by hitting the first pitch of the game for a home run to left field.
Connor Arnold got the
start and worked his way through three innings of work.
The middle innings of the game saw the lead change hands multiple times. Mount St.
Joseph responded to the lead off homer with two runs of their own in the bottom of the
first. Transy answered with a run in the 3 rd by capitalizing off a lead off double from Trent
Pahl as
Calvin Schubert drove him in. Mount St. Joseph took the lead in the bottom of the 5 th
after a couple of defensive miscues by the Pioneers, but
Brennan Perry was able to right the
ship in time to only give up one run.
From there on out it was all Pios.
Zach Forner tied the game by driving in Austin
Taylor with a double to left field in the 6 th . In the 7 th inning Pahl led off with a walk and
Dreher bunted him over to second. Schubert followed up with a hit by pitch to bring Henry
Mitcham to the plate with men on first and 2 nd . Mitcham single through left side to bring
home Pahl. An ensuing wild pitch brought Schubert across the plate and a single by Taylor
brought Mitcham across to make it 6-3 Pioneers.
The 8 th inning brought more of the same as walks to
Walter Munday and Pahl
brought Dreher up. A throwing error on Dreher's groundball made it 7-3 and Mitcham put
the final touches on the scoring for the Pioneers as his single brought in Dreher and
Schubert, who had reached base via another hit by pitch.
Ty Conner earned the save with 3 outstanding innings of work to finish up the game.
He struck out 6, walked two, and gave up two hits.
Coach Getsee had this to say after the game:
"It's always great to win game one of the series, but we have two big ones tomorrow
that we need to follow through on."
