#16 Transy Volleyball extend win streak to six games after 4-0 weekend in Transy Fall Invite

LEXINGTON - #16 Transy Volleyball defeated Covenant College and Marietta College in five sets each to extend their win streak to six games, and cap off a 4-0 weekend.

The Pioneers defeated Marian and Muskingum yesterday and started off the second match of Saturday's four game tournament skate against Covenant.

Transy took the first two sets from Covenant, overcoming a slow start that saw the Pioneers down 3-7 early, and recover late. The Pioneers didn't take their first lead in the set until a 5-0 run down 21-23 pushed Transy past the Scots and gave them a 1-0 set lead.

Jasmine Koonce started the run with back to back kills, and Grace Ward followed with a service ace. Isabella Myers made it 24-23 and the Pioneers finished it off after an attack error by the Scots.

After an exiting set two win for Transy, the Scots used a late run in set three to comeback from being down 21-24 and eventually win the set 29-27. The Scots would then take set four 25-21 to force a fifth set.

Transy dominated in the fifth set, using a 7-0 run to run out to a 10-2 lead and eventually win the set 15-6.

Kayden Holcomb had temporarily what was a career high 18 kills in the win. Isabella Myers finished with 15 and Addie Atcher finished with 11. Holcomb's 5 blocks was the most in a match for her since November 10th of 2022.

Grace Ward finished with 3 aces and 56 assists, the most assists for her since last season's NCAA tournament match against Emory when she had 62. Ava Beltsos finished with 16 digs.

The Pioneers outhit Covenant .193 to .130. They finished with 22 more blocks than the Scots.

Transy then faced Marietta in the final game of the Transy Fall Invite, in what would be another five set thriller victory for the Pioneers.

TU lost set one 24-26, but would turn the tables and explode offensively for the next two sits, winning easily 25-19 in set two and 25-16 in set three. Marietta rebounded and gave Transy its worst set loss of the season, only allowing the Pioneers to score 13 points in set four.

TU answered the call in the fifth set, using a 3-0 run to end the match for a 15-11 set three win.

Kayden Holcomb finished the match with 19 kills, a new career high. Marietta struggled to stop Holcomb all game. Isabella Myers finished the match with 18 kills, tying a career high. Cate Scheper finished the match with 18.

Myers finished the Fall Invite with a .439 hitting percentage, earning 46 kills over the two day span.

Mason Morrow finished the match with four aces, coming in at big moments to shift the momentum back to Transy's side after back and forth action between the two teams.

Grace Ward finished with 57 assists. She finished the invite with 174, bringing her total to 3,299.

"We pulled it together for each other at the end of every match. We put ourselves in a hole but fought super hard to get back out," Head Coach Amy Barmore said. The Pioneers survived some tough moments on Saturday.

"When we do things together, we do great things. The last match was a tough one. Both teams hitting .300 and above is pretty special. Marietta is a great team and they battled. Izzy myers and Kayden Holcomb were amazing in the last match and super proud of them for stepping up."

Transy finishes their home tournaments with a record of 5-2, and welcome their first non-tournament home matchup against Spalding University this Wednesday at 7 PM.
