DANVILLE, Ky. - Transy Volleyball recovered from a 22-25 first set loss to storm back and defeat Kentucky rival Centre College 3-1 behind big offensive performances by
Cate Scheper,
Isabella Myers, and
Kayden Holcomb. The win was the 5th straight over Centre for Head Coach
Amy Barmore and 6th in a row overall over the Colonels for the Pioneers.
The Pioneers recovered from a slow start, seeing Centre take set one 25-22. Transy trailed 2-9 in set two before finding their groove and scoring ten of the next fourteen points. TU took their first lead of the set 17-16 off one of
Kayden Holcomb's ten kills on the night. After going back and forth late, the Pioneers edged out a set two win 29-27.
"We talked about settling down and getting back to how we do things," Head Coach
Amy Barmore said. "We had to get back to being smart at the net and serving them out of system. We executed those two things at the end of the match for the finish.
Transy and Centre traded leads in the third set with the Pioneers jumping out to as big as a four point lead, but Centre kept scrapping to eventually tie the set late at 23-23, but a kill by
Isabella Myers and an attack error from Centre gave Transy the 25-23 set three win.
Set four was Transy's most dominant, leading 6-1 to start the set and eventually dominating their way to an 18-10 lead. The Colonels who trouble finding way to stop junior
Cate Scheper, who finished the game with a team high 16 kills and earned the final point of the night. The Pioneers won the set 25-20 and the match 3-1.
The win moves Transy to 10-3 all time vs Centre.

"Cate, Izzy and Kayden finished the night with double digit kills. We needed them to step up and they did. Mason was subbed in and helped us hang in the game when we needed to make hustle plays. We have some work to do but super proud of the mentality switch at the end of the match." Barmore said.
Transy outhit Centre .181 to .113 on the night, and out-blocked the Colonels 10-4.
The Pioneers move to 2-2 on the season and earn their first road win of the season heading into the second Transy Fall Invite this Friday.Â
