LEXINGTON - #16 Transy Volleyball won their fourth straight match to move to 4-2 on the season after sweeping both Marian University and Muskingum University in convincing fashion. The Sabres and Muskies had no answer for the Pioneers who have won 11 of their last 12 sets.
Transy defeated Marian 25-13, 25-13, and 25-15 in the third game of the 2023 Transy Invite and took down Muskingum 25-21, 25-14, and 25-15 to earn their fourth straight win heading into tomorrow's two match slate against Covenant and Marietta.
Transy led Marian 14-11 before a 10-0 run knocked the Sabres down. TU outhit Marian .577 to .045 in the first set and ended with more kills than the Sabres had points.
Sets two saw similar results, with the Pioneers taking off after a close 13-10 lead, using a 12-3 run to end the set and set themselves up for their second sweep of the season. Transy ended the set on a 6-0 run.
Transylvania blew the doors off in the final set, reaching as big as a 20-8 lead and winning the set 25-15.
The Pioneers owned the stat column, outscoring Marian 57-31 in points and 39-24 in kills. Transy had a team best 14 aces in the match.
Cate Scheper continued to spearhead the offense, leading with 12 kills. Junior
Makayla Davis earned 2 assists in the match.
Grace Ward finished with 27 assists.
Isabella Myers had 9 kills and
Addie Atcher had 8.
After a 35 minute break, the Pioneers had a quick turnaround and faced Muskingum to close the opening night of the Transy Fall Invite.
After a close first set that saw Transy on top 25-21, the Pioneers shifted into full swing and blew out the Muskies in the final two sets. Transy outperformed the muskies in points, kills, aces, blocks, and assists in the win.Â
Senior
Ava Beltsos reached a career milestone Friday night, earning her 1000th dig in the second set vs Muskingum. The senior finished the match with 10 digs. Beltsos currently ranks 8th all time in program history with 1,014 digs.
Cate Scheper finished the match with 18 kills, tying her season high. Jasmine Koonxe finished with 4 blocks.
Kayden Holcomb finished with a team high 2 aces.
Grace Ward finished with 34 assists, bringing her average to 37.8 on the season.
The Pioneers are back in action tomorrow at 1 PM and 5 PM to close out the second Transy Fall Invite.
