LEXINGTON - The no. 2 nationally ranked Pioneers defeated Hanover College this evening 54-39 behind strong defense and offensive performances led by
Dasia Thornton (19 points, 9-15 FG) and
Sydney Wright (10 points, 4-7 FG). The Pioneers move to 14-0 overall and 7-0 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference.
With the win, Transylvania has won their 47th consecutive game, tying UCONN's 47 win streak set in the 2013-2015 seasons. The Pioneers now hold the 8th longest win streak in NCAA DIII history and hold the longest active winning streak in all of NCAA.
Although scoring the least amount of points in their season, Transy's defense continued to wear down opposing teams. The Pioneers held Hanover to just 13 first half points, the third lowest this season while causing 18 Panther turnovers that resulted in 22 points. Transy held Hanover to 25.9% shooting while shooting 42.6% themselves.
Dasia Thornton continued her streak of double-figure scoring. She finished with 19 points and 7 rebounds.
Sydney Wright finished with 10 and was one rebound away from her first double-double of the season.
Kennedi Stacy finished the game with a team high 4 assists.
Juli Fulks earned her 383rd career victory. Her team's have won the last 10 games against Hanover. Transy leads the series 31-13 all time after the win.
Transy hits the road this weekend and looks to remain perfect in conference play when they take on Rose Hulman in Terre Haute, Indiana this Saturday at 1 PM.
