Defense shows out in No. 2 Transy's 34 point win over Mount St. Joseph

Transy wins 51st straight game 68-34

LEXINGTON - The No. 2 nationally ranked Pioneers defeated Mount St. Joseph 68-34 to remain unbeaten and improve to 18-0 overall and 11-0 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference. Transy led the entire game, dominating the Lions from start to finish to earn their 17th win all time over MSJ.

With the win, Transylvania has won their 51st straight game, passing Amherst's 50 game win streak set in the 2011-2012 seasons. The 51st straight win ties Washburn's 51 game win streak set between 2005-2006.

Dasia Thornton led the charge for Transy, earning her third double-double in four games. She finished the game with 18 points and tied a season high 15 rebounds. Sadie Wurth was 3-3 on three pointers and finished with 11 points. Sydney Wright was 3-5 from the field and 4-5 from the free throw line for 10 points. Kennedi Stacy finished with 9 points and a game high 6 assists.

The Pioneers began the game on an 8-0 run  and outscored MSJ 13-10 the final 6 minutes of the quarter. The Pioneers cooled off in the second quarter, but went into the half up 31-19 after shooting 52% from the floor.

The Pioneers defense turned up the heat in the second half. Transy held MSJ to just 6 field goals, and held the Lions to a game low 18% shooting in the 4th quarter. TU capitalized off the strong defensive showing with a 24-2 run in the second half, and held MSJ scoreless for 6 minutes in the fourth quarter. As a team, Transy held MSJ to 24.1% shooting, the third lowest percentage this season.

The win is Juli Fulks's 387th career win.
