HANOVER, Ind. - The no. 2 ranked Pioneers took down Hanover on the road 62-50 to remain unbeaten and improve to 20-0 overall and 13-0 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference.
With the win, Transylvania has won their 53rd straight game, tying FDU-Florham's 53 game win streak set between 2013-2015. The Pioneers are now holders of the 7th longest win streak in NCAA DIII history. Transylvania has started 20-0 for the third consecutive season and for the 7th time in the last eight seasons.
Transylvania led the entire game and jumped out to a 11-2 lead just four minutes in. The Pioneers shot 7 of 14 in the quarter and led 15-6 heading into the second quarter. Transylvania would finish 7 of 14 again in the quarter but added 3 three pointers and hold the Panthers to 15 to lead 33-21 at the half.
Transy opened the second half on a 7-2 scoring run with
Dasia Thornton scoring 5 of her team leading 21 points on back to back possessions. Transy would make just three shots in the final 5:48 of the third but their lead would be too much for Hanover to break. The Panthers would out-score Transy 18-15 in the final quarter but the Pioneer lead would be too much as Transy would get the season series win and their 32nd all time win over Hanover.
The Pioneer defense caused 20 Panther turnovers that resulted in 22 points. The Panthers made just 2 three pointers in the game.
Thornton would go on to finish the game with 12 rebounds to earn her 8th double-double of the season. She is now 3 rebounds away from 900 in her career.
Kennedi Stacy finished the game with 10 points and 5 rebounds.
Sadie Wurth finished with 8 points and led the team with 5 assists.
Laken Ball is now at 997 points in her career. Ball's next three points will make her the 27th player in program history to reach 1,000 points in a career, and join teammates
Kennedi Stacy and
Dasia Thornton as active Pioneers to make the list.
The win is Head Coach
Juli Fulks's 889th of her career.
