LEXINGTON, KY - Transylvania University picked up another HCAC victory, defeating Rose-Hulman 3-0 on Saturday at the Clive M. Beck Center.
The Pioneers opened the first set on a 7-0 run, featuring four kills from
Cecilia Roberts and an ace from
Ava Beltsos. They would extend their strong offensive performance, extending the advantage 12-3. Rose-Hulman would battle back into the set, eventually trimming the lead to 20-18, however
Kayden Holcomb's late kill would seal the first set for Transy, 25-20. The second set would find a more competitive exchange with each team struggling to build a run.
Isabella Myers and
Addie Atcher's back to back kills would give Transy an 11-10 advantage, but Rose-Hulman would counter with multiple short runs to stay within range of the Pioneers. Transy would seal the set victory with an impressive combination of kills from
Cate Scheper,
Isabella Myers and
Cecilia Roberts, along with two consecutive aces from
Grace Ward. Ward would score the final point of the set to seal the 25-18 win.
In the final set, Rose-Hulman would utilize a five point run to take an 11-7 advantage, but Transy would continue to find answers for every Rose-Hulman run.
Cate Scheper's two kills would pull Transy to within two, while
Kayden Holcomb's two kills would bring Transy to a one point deficit, 20-19. Transy would close the set on a three point run, winning 25-22 and earning the HCAC victory 3-0.
Head Coach Amy Barmore was proud of her team's performance against a strong defensive team in Rose-Hulman.
"We had another great team effort match against a very good Rose-Hulman team.
Cate Scheper led us with 16 kills on two errors, hitting .389," said Barmore. "She executed our game plan very well.
Cecilia Roberts and
Kayden Holcomb added 10 kills each as well.
Grace Ward added a double double today with 41 assists, averaging 13.67 a set and 13 digs.
Maggie Harrison led us with 14 digs. With our ball control and
Grace Ward delivering the ball, we were able to attack at a .285 as a team, holding them to .102. We had a solid start to our Saturday and I am excited to build off of that moving forward."
