LEXINGTON, KY - Transylvania University opened the HCAC portion of their season with a 3-0 victory over Bluffton on Saturday at the Clive M. Beck Center.Â
Transylvania opened the first set with an impressive offensive run to establish a 10-4 lead.

Cate Scheper and
Isabella Myers would all score kills in the opening run for the Pioneers. Bluffton would battle back, bringing the score to a one point deficit at 22-21, however a sequence of a kill from
Cecilia Roberts, an ace from
Maggie Harrison and a kill from
Cate Scheper would give Transy a 25-21 opening set win. The second set would see another strong opening run from Transylvania with the Pioneers opening with a 7-1 advantage, a lead they would hold onto to take the second set.
Maggie Harrison would score another ace in the set, while Scheper would add another five kills for the Pioneers, including the set deciding point for the second time in the afternoon.
Mason Morrow's ace would open the third set with an 8-1 advantage for Transy, while
Madelyn Luers would make an impact with three kills in the victory sealing set.
Macy Lentz would score the deciding point for the Pioneers, her first kill of the afternoon, to win 25-15 and 3-0 overall.Â
"We started off great in our opening conference match at home," said Head Coach Amy Barmore. "We had a tough week of practice to prepare for this weekend and conference play. Cate led us with twelve kills and
Isabella Myers added eleven and hit a .733 with no errors."
In addition to the HCAC victory, Transy also celebrated several milestones set in recent play.Â
Cate Scheper was recognized for breaking the institution record for total career kills, surpassing the previous record of 1,408 set by Erin Romito.Â
Maggie Harrison and
Ava Beltsos were recognized for reaching 100 career aces for the Pioneers, while
Kayden Holcomb was recognized for achieving 100 aces and 250 blocks.
Grace Ward was also celebrated for reaching 100 career blocks.Â
Up next for Transylvania is a trip to Louisville to take on Spalding University on Wednesday, October 9th at 7 p.m. The Pioneers will resume HCAC play on Saturday, October 12th at the Clive M. Beck Center against Rose-Hulman at 1 p.m.
