LEXINGTON, KY - Transylvania University wrapped up their regular season and celebrated their senior class with a 3-0 victory over Berea on Saturday.Â
In the opening set, the Pioneers offense was hitting at full strength, opening the match with a 20-7 run. The run began with a kill from
Cate Scheper, followed by a block from Scheper and
Cecilia Roberts,
Ava Beltsos scored an ace in the opening run. Scheper, along with
Isabella Myers,
Addie Atcher,
Grace Ward and
Kayden Holcomb, would all contribute to the strong opening performance for Transy. Senior
Gianna Pixler scored a kill to extend a 22-9 lead, helping the Pioneers secure a 25-10 set one win. The second set saw Berea open with a 9-6 run before Transy responded to retake the lead behind an ace from
Kayden Holcomb. The Pioneers would never lose the lead in the second set, going on a 7-0 run to lead 20-14. The offensive sequence featured three kills from Atcher, two kills from Holcomb and an ace from Beltsos. Transy won set two 25-18.Â
The Pioneers opened set three with a 9-4 run, but battled with the Mountaineers to extend, as each team exchanged short scoring runs throughout the set.
Lexie Huck's kill gave Transy a 20-14 lead, one they would not relinquish. Two kills from Holcomb secured the 25-16 set win, and a 3-0 victory for Transylvania.Â
Transylvania celebrated six seniors ahead of the match:
Cate Scheper,
Maggie Harrison,
Alicyn Croley,
Gianna Pixler,
Kayden Holcomb and
Mason Morrow. Head Coach Amy Barmore was proud to celebrate a special day for the program with an HCAC victory.
"What a special day it was for our seniors, I am so proud of them and I am going to miss them," Barmore said. "We had a great match celebrating them as well.
Cate Scheper led us with 19 kills, hitting .441.
Addie Atcher added 11 kills, hitting .500. Kayden brought in nine kills, hitting .333. We hit .420 as a team.
Ava Beltsos had five aces and 15 digs. We are ready to start preparing for tournament time and we're happy we get to play at home."
