LEXINGTON - In a thrilling contest with the rain-soaked skies at Legends Stadium, the Transylvania Pioneers defeated New Jersey City 12-6 victory over the New Jersey City Gothic Knights to take the series.

Led by the pitching performances of Luke Patton and Matt Armstrong, the Pioneers controlled the tempo of the game from the mound, and survived some scary moments late in the game. Patton delivered an impressive 7.0 inning performance, shutting down the Gothic Knights' hitters with 6 strikeouts and only allowing 2 runs. Armstrong closed things down in the 8th and 9th, striking out 2 batters and giving up no runs.

Henry Mitcham put Transy up early with a 3-run shot over the left field wall. NJCU got a run back on an RBI double in the 2nd, and made it a one run game with a sacrifice fly in the 3rd. Transy added more in the 6th as Chase Gartner brought in a pair with a double. Trent Pahl brought in a run on an RBI groundout, and Trent Youngblood would steal home to cap off a big inning.

Youngblood became the program's all time steals leader with his 63rd career stolen base. He now is the program's all time leader at 64. He finished the game with 2.

New Jersey City made it a 1 run game with 4 runs in the 8th, but Transy scored 5 runs in the bottom half by capitalizing on walks and wild pitches. The Pioneers had just 1 hit in the inning.

Transylvania improves to 11-2 and will go for the sweep tomorrow at noon.
