LEXINGTON - Transylvania Baseball moved to 12-3 on the season after losing to Spalding University 8-2 on Wednesday evening. The Pioneer offense struggled to bring in runners in scoring position most of the game.
Spalding scored the first eight runs of the game, and took an early 3-0 lead in the first inning after back-to-back doubles to lead off the game and a two run home run. The Golden Eagles added one in the fourth inning two more in the fifth to extend their lead to 6-0. Spalding's Henry Strong hit his second home run of the game in the top of the ninth to extend the Golden Eagles' lead to 8-0.
Transylvania avoided the shutout with two runs in the ninth inning.
Walter Munday brought in a runner on a sacrifice fly and another run would score on a throwing error by Spalding.
Transy's offense strung together seven hits and was led by
Calvin Schubert with three.
Up next: The Pioneers begin conference play this Saturday with a doubleheader against Hanover scheduled for a noon first pitch.
