LEXINGTON - Transylvania Baseball won their third Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference series in a row this afternoon after beating Bluffton in the first two games of the three game series to improve to 22-6 overall and 9-3 in conference play. The series win over Bluffton is the first since 2022.
Transylvania's offense remained hot in game one with 12 runs. The pitching staff held Bluffton to just 3 runs in game one.
The Pioneers scored the game's first 9 runs, with 3 of them coming in the first.
Henry Mitcham's RBI double scored
Trent Pahl, and
Walter Munday made it 3-0 on an RBI single to score
Austin Taylor and
Henry Mitcham.
With bases loaded in the fifth,
Henry Mitcham earned his fourth RBI of the game with a bases clearing double.
Trent Youngblood's RBI single in the sixth brought in
Calvin Schubert, and Mitcham's double the next at bat brought in Youngblood.
Austin Taylor scored Mitcham on an RBI single to make it 9-0 Transy.
Bluffton hit a 3 run home run in the 7th to break the shutout, but would be unable to plate anymore runners the final 2 innings.
Warren Wilson's first career hit came in exciting fashion, as he extended Transy's lead to 10-3 with a solo home run.
Ezra Yi scored the final 2 runs of the game with a 2 run RBI double.
Connor Arnold earned the win to improve to 2-1 on the season.
Gabe Dillard,
Robby Arnett, and
Noah Godfrey came in relief and kept the lead in tact.
In game two,
Henry Craig earned his fourth win of the season after 5 innings pitched and allowing just 2 hits.
Drew Bowles earned his first save of the year after finishing the final 4 innings and allowing just 2 hits and no runs. The Beavers managed to get just 1 runner to third base.
Transys offense cooled down a little, but scored 3 of their 5 runs on sacrifice fly's.
Austin Taylor and
Henry Mitcham lined out to center field to score a run each, and
Calvin Schubert made it a 3-0 game after scoring on a wild pitch in the third.
Chase Gartner scored Taylor on a sacrifice fly to right field in the sixth, and
Trent Youngblood singled to center in the seventh to score Transy's final run of the game.
Trent Pahl had 3 of Transy's 6 hits in game two, finishing 3-4.
Up next: At 9-3 in the HCAC, Transy stands at second place, 1 game behind Hanover (10-3). The Pioneers will look for their 10th conference win of the season tomorrow when they go for the sweep against Bluffton at 1 PM.
