SAUGET, IL. - Transylvania Baseball defeated Webster University on the road this afternoon, 12-3 to extend the program's longest winning streak in over 2 decades to 12 games.
After being down 1-0 after 4 innings, Transylvania scored all 12 of their runs in 4 of the next 5 innings to earn their first win over the Gorloks since 2019.
Henry Craig became the first Pioneer pitcher this season to earn his 6th win on the mound. He pitched 5.1 innings, striking out 6 batters while allowing only 2 runs.
Drew Bowles and
Matt Armstrong kept the Gorloks from putting together any comeback.
Austin Taylor led the Pioneers at the plate with a 3-4 performance, which included a career high 7 RBI's, and was capped off with a grand slam in the top of the 9th inning to push an 8-3 lead to a 12-3 lead.
Trent Youngblood (2-4),
Henry Mitcham (2-3, 1 RBI)
Calvin Schubert (2-3, 2 RBI's), and
Bryce Dreher (2-4, 2 RBI's) provided all 11 Transy hits and 12 runs.
Henry Mitcham's RBI single to right field in the 7th inning tied the program's single season RBI record at 57. After scoring twice today,
Trent Youngblood has tied the program's single season runs record this season at 61. With a steal in his next game, Youngblood can tie the single season stolen bases record at 26.
Transylvania put the game nearly out of reach with a 5 run 7th inning, but Taylor's grand slam in the 9th slammed the door down and put an exclamation point for Transylvania, who finished the month of April 13-1. Transylvania has now won their last 6 road games.
The win was Transylvania's 30th of the season, the 2nd time in 4 years the Pioneers have won 30 or more games. The last time Transy won 30 games in a season was 2021 when the Pioneers won the HCAC regular season and HCAC Tournament championships and advanced to the NCAA Regional.Â
Up next: The Pioneers return to conference play and stay on the road as they take on Earlham College next Saturday before returning home for Senior Day next Sunday against Mount St. Joseph. At 15-3, the Pioneers have already clinched a spot in the HCAC Tournament.
