5/10/2024 2:41:00 PM

PITTSBURGH, PA- The Transylvania Women's Tennis team concluded their 2023-24 season in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Pioneers played the two time defending national champions Claremont Mudd Scripps, the Pioneers would lose 5-0. This season was successful in many ways for the Pioneers where they finish undefeated in conference play, HCAC regular season champions, HCAC tournament champions, earned HCAC player of the year honors (Katherine Taylor), HCAC coach of the year (Bill Carey), and several athletes earning all-conference honors.

Today the Pioneers would battle in Doubles as the pairing of Katherine Taylor and Meredith Cooper couldn't strike twice, losing 8-2. In #2 Double the pairing of Ally Rassenfoss and Maria Hayes would lose 8-1, then #3 Doubles would be lost 8-0 despite the efforts of Chrsitina Duvall and Maddy Williams.

In Singles the Pioneers were battling a 3-0 hole, with Doubles taking the brunt of the Pioneer effort Singles would be a decisive loss. In #2 Singles Ally Rassenfoss would lose 6-0, 6-0. In #4 Singles Maddy Williams would lose 6-0, 6-0. The remaining matches for the Pioneers would conclude as "unfinished" as the Mudd Scripps reached the 5 point threshold.

Head Coach Bill Carey shares his thoughts on the season: "Ending the season on a 10 game win streak, a fifth consecutive conference championship and a first ever NCAA tournament was amazing. And icing on the cake for what was already a special season because of the very special group that I was fortunate enough to coach this year. It was especially gratifying that in those big wins contributions came from every spot in the lineup. And having that streak brought to an end by the defending champs, while humbling, just showed us the level we aspire to, and lights a fire under us for next year to come back and keep working. Couldn't be more excited for that, with this group and the newcomers."

With the conclusion of the season the Pioneers will lose 2 seniors, Grace Garnder and Christina Duvall. Their contribution to the program has helped create the culture which has dominated the HCAC in recent years. Stay up to date with all Transylvania sports and Women's Tennis news at transysports.com
