RICHMOND, IN - Transylvania's 2025 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Tournament run came to an end in a five set match with Hanover on Sunday.Â
Both teams battled in the opening set, an indication of the competitive back and forth that was to come for both teams. Transylvania found their opportunity to build a lead with a 6-1 run to take a 15-11 advantage. Hanover responded, and rallied to tie the Pioneers at 18-18. Transylvania found their closing opportunity with two runs to end the set. The first was a three point sequence of a kill from
Addie Atcher, a kill from
Isabella Myers and an ace from
Alex O'Connor to take a 21-18 lead. Hanover would score on the next serve, but the Pioneers would close the set with four straight points to win set one.
Cecelia Roberts had two kills in the final run of the set, but Myers would close the win with a kill.Â
Set two saw a similar start for both teams, but Hanover would come ahead with a 23-17 lead, but the Pioneers would rally.
Addie Atcher and
Lilly Kaiser scored consecutive kills, followed by an ace from O'Connor, to cut the lead to three. After Hanover scored on the next serve, Transylvania scored three straight to cut the deficit to 24-23, but Hanover's Maddie Robertson would score on a kill to close the set for Hanover. In the third set, Hanover would take a 20-10 lead after scoring five consecutive points, but Transylvania would continue to rally and respond. The Pioneers went on a 7-2 run to pull within reach of Hanover, including two kills from Atcher, a kill from Kaiser and a block from Atcher and Kaiser. Hanover scored a point on a service error, but the Pioneers would score two consecutive points to trail 23-18. Hanover would close the set with two kills, 25-18.Â
Transylvania would storm back in set four, taking a 19-17 lead after four straight kills from the Pioneers. Hanover would respond, taking a 22-21 lead, but the Pioneers would rally to close the set with a kill from Kaiser, a kill from Myers and two attack errors from Hanover to win set four 25-23. In the fifth and deciding set, the Pioneers opened on a 3-1 run with two kills from Myers. Kaiser and
Peyton Mast scored consecutive kills to take a 7-5 lead, but Hanover would rally with three straight to take an 8-7 advantage.
Addie Atcher scored the next two points for the Pioneers, both kills, but Hanover took a 14-9 lead.
Cecelia Roberts and
Isabella Myers would score two late kills to pull within three of Hanover, but Hanover's Abbey McCoy would score a final kill to give Hanover the set and the 2025 HCAC Tournament Championship.Â
Isabella Myers led the Pioneers with 21 kills, followed by 20 from
Addie Atcher and 10 from
Lilly Kaiser.
Macy Lentz led the Pioneers with 49 assists,
Julia Brown led the team in digs with 24, followed by Myers with 21.Â
Addie Atcher and
Isabella Myers were named to the HCAC All Tournament Team.Â
