NASHVILLE, TN - Transylvania Pioneers traveled down south to Nashville, TN to play in the Sewanee Invitational. Their first match up of the weekend took place on Saturday evening, where the Pioneers fell just short of victory in a 16-10 loss to Illinois Wesleyan University.

IWU would start the game hot with their attack scoring two consecutive goals. Luke Stetter halted the 2-0 run, with the first Pioneer goal of the weekend. Illinois Wesleyan would again go on another two goal run making the score 4-1 at the 9:48 mark. Just under five minutes, Luke Larish found Huck Campbell after a good transition for another Transylvania goal. Less than a minute later, Campbell's ground ball pick up would turn into offense by finding Charlie Horner who would go on to score. To close out the first quarter, Campbell would again find himself with a ground ball pick up and score by himself, making the score 4-5 IWU.

To start the second quarter, on a man-up possession Campbell assisted the tying goal scored by Jack Miller. IWU would again go on to take the lead, but the Pioneers continued to show grit and determination. After a conduct foul on IWU, Transylvania made the most out of the man-up possession with Horner finding the back of the net for the second time. Transylvania regained the lead seconds before the half with a goal by Ryan Geisler.

Geisler's form continued right into the third quarter as he scored his second of the game, after a pass from Campbell. IWU regained the lead on a run in most of the third quarter. After a unnecessary roughness penalty on IWU, Campbell would yet again be involved in the play and find Josh Harney for the goal. IWU came into the fourth quarter still attacking, and would score two quick goals in the opening minutes of the quarter. The Pioneer scoring would end at the 7:39 mark with a goal from Huck Campbell.

The Pioneers are looking forward to their second match up in the tournament against Illinois Institute of Technology on Sunday at 1PM est. Live stats and live stream can be found on transysports.com
