DECATUR, ILLINOIS - Transylvania University Baseball kicked off the 2025 season with a double header against Webster and Millikin in Decatur, Illinois on Sunday.

Webster 4, Transylvania 1

Transylvania scored in the first inning as Calvin Schubert singled through the left side for an RBI, as Riley Hill scored. After entering the second inning tied at 1-1, Webster would score two runs in the second inning, before a final RBI in the ninth inning led to a 4-1 loss for the Pioneers.

The Pioneers had eight hits in the season opener, including two from Seita Shiratori.

Transylvania had an opportunity to see five pitchers in action on the mound Sunday, including Luke Patton, Connor Arnold, Nathan Hale, Giancarlo Gonzalez and Gabe Dillard who had two strikeouts.

Millikan 8, Transylvania 1

Austin Taylor scored a run for the Pioneers in the second inning on a passed ball to trim an early Millikin lead down to two, but Millikin would score a run in fourth, two in the seventh and one in the eighth, leading to an 8-1 loss for the Pioneers to close the first weekend of baseball for the 2025 season.

In the second game of the afternoon the Pioneers had five hits. Six pitchers saw action in the evening matchup, including Henry Craig, Drew Bowles, Brayden Offenbacher, Tristan Cooper, Jacob Moberly and Matt Armstrong.

" I thought we played better than the box score showed," said Head Coach Zack Getsee after the game. "We put together some really good at-bats that didn't result in positives, and that's ok. Glad we got the first weekend under our belt and got to see a lot of new faces and what they'll look like in our lineup or on the mound."

Transylvania returns to action on March 1st with a Round Robin at Legends Stadium. The Pioneers will take on Hope College at 11:00 a.m., followed by Babson in the nightcap at 5:00 p.m. and Baldwin Wallace at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 2nd, to close the weekend.
