Hannah Varel has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Coach of the Year in Women's Basketball.Â
In Varel's first season as Head Coach of the Pioneers, she led the team to a record of 20-5, including 16-1 in the HCAC. Transylvania University was also named the 2024-25 Regular Season Champions in the HCAC, earning a top seed in the HCAC Conference Tournament.Â
Four players were named to All-Conference teams in the HCAC:
Sadie Wurth (First Team),
Sierra Kemelgor (Second Team),
Riley Flinn (Honorable Mention) and
Chloe McKnight (Newcomer Team).
Sierra Kemelgor was named Defensive Player of the Year.Â
The top seeded HCAC Regular Season Champions host the 2025 HCAC Women's Basketball Tournament at the Clive M. Beck Center. The Semifinals will be held on Friday, February 28th at 5:00 and 7:00 p.m. The HCAC Championship will be held Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
