DANVILLE, KY - Transylvania University traveled to Danville to take on Centre College at Andy Frye Stadium on Wednesday, despite a first quarter lead, Centre outlasted the Pioneers 14-8.Â
Jack Miller scored for Transylvania in the opening 90 seconds, giving the Pioneers an early 1-0 lead. Minutes later following a Centre goal,
Luke Larish and
Andrew Welch scored within a minute of each other to give a 2-1 lead for Transylvania. Welch would score another goal in the final five minutes of the opening quarter, the Pioneers would lead 4-3 after the opening quarter. Transylvania would be unable to score in the second quarter, as Centre scored three goals to take a 6-4 lead into the half.Â
Andrew Welch would score in the third quarter, trailing by two, but Centre would score four goals in the third quarter to take a 10-5 lead into the fourth quarter. In the fourth,
Jack Miller would score two consecutive goals to cut the lead 10-7.
Andrew Welch would score again in the fourth quarter, but Centre would score three final goals in the fourth quarter for a 14-8 final score.Â
Nick DeGrandi recorded 14 saves in the evening match up for the Pioneers.
Andrew Welch led Transylvania with four goals,
Jack Miller followed with three goals.
Briggs Beck led Transylvania with six ground balls.Â
