Game 1 Recap: Transylvania 3, Manchester 0

Lexington, KY – The Transylvania Pioneers defeated the Manchester University Spartans 3-0 in the first game of their Sunday doubleheader at Legends Field. The Pioneers' pitching staff was dominant, shutting out the Spartans while the offense provided just enough support.

Transylvania got on the board early, scoring a run in the bottom of the first inning. Baxter Tedesco led off with a double, advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Seita Shiratori, and scored on an RBI single by Henry Mitcham.

The Pioneers added another run in the bottom of the second. Ethan Dillon singled, advanced to third on a single by Ashton Miller, and scored when Ashton Miller was caught stealing at second, allowing Dillon to come home.

Transylvania scored their final run in the bottom of the sixth. Austin Taylor doubled, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and scored on another wild pitch.

The highlight of the game, however, was the impressive pitching of the Pioneers. Sophomore Drew Bowles earned the win, pitching 6.0 scoreless innings, allowing six hits and two walks while striking out an impressive 12 batters. Brayden Offenbacher pitched a scoreless seventh, Gabe Dillard followed with a scoreless eighth, and senior Matthew Armstrong closed out the game with a scoreless ninth to earn the save.

Offensively, the Pioneers were led by Baxter Tedesco and Henry Mitcham, who each had two hits. Ethan Dillon and Austin Taylor also contributed with a hit apiece. Despite tallying nine hits, the Manchester offense was unable to push a run across the plate. J. Holley took the loss for the Spartans.

Game 2 Recap: Manchester 4, Transylvania 1

Lexington, KY – The Manchester University Spartans earned a split in their Sunday doubleheader against the Transylvania Pioneers, taking the second game by a score of 4-1 in a rain-affected contest at Legends Field.

Manchester took an early lead, scoring a run in the top of the first inning. Transylvania responded in the bottom of the third when Seita Shiratori singled to left center, driving in Caleb Bowers, who had walked earlier in the inning.

The score remained tied until the top of the fourth when Manchester scored an unearned run to retake the lead. The Spartans added another run in the top of the seventh and their final run in the top of the eighth.

Transylvania struggled to generate offense in the later innings, managing only one hit after the third inning.

Sophomore Henry Craig took the loss for the Pioneers, pitching 3.0 innings and allowing two runs on eight hits. Brady McFarland pitched three innings, allowing one run on two hits, and Giancarlo Gonzalez pitched the final three innings, allowing one run on four hits.

Manchester's offense was led by J. Kennedy and M. Dierckman, who each had two hits. A. Casas earned the win for the Spartans, pitching 6.0 innings and allowing one run on two hits. Q. Black earned the save, pitching the final three innings and allowing two hits.

Looking Ahead: Pioneers Travel to Centre College for Evening Matchup

Following their weekend split with Manchester, the Transylvania Pioneers will hit the road for a midweek matchup against Centre College. The Pioneers are scheduled to play the Colonels tonight, Tuesday, March 25th, with the first pitch set for 6:00 PM. Transylvania will look to carry the momentum from their game one victory against Manchester into this contest against their in-state rivals.
