LEXINGTON, KY – Transylvania surged past Heartland Collegiate Lacrosse Conference opponent Spalding University in an offensive clinic, securing a dominant 19-1 victory.
The Pioneers wasted no time setting the tone, with Andrew Welch striking first just three minutes into the game. On the next possession, Ben Gaccino added a quick goal to extend the early lead. What followed was an unrelenting offensive barrage—Huck Campbell, Cole Brickley, and Jack Miller each found the back of the net in rapid succession. Miller then assisted Welch for his second of the night, making it 5-0 by the 9-minute mark.
With 5:18 remaining in the first quarter, the Pioneers put together another three-goal flurry in under a minute, led by scores from Ryan Geisler and Welch. Luke Larish and Campbell closed out the quarter with two more goals, giving Transylvania a commanding 12-0 lead.
Welch completed his hat trick early in the second quarter, followed by goals from Luke Hinton (assisted by Luke Stetter) and Rohan Savalia in the final minutes of the half, sending the Pioneers into the break with a 15-0 lead.
Transylvania kept its foot on the gas to open the second half—RJ Young scored just 14 seconds in, and Stetter added his first goal three minutes later. Gaccino notched his second goal midway through the third, and Stetter closed out the Pioneers' scoring with his second of the game.
Defensively, Transylvania delivered a masterclass, combining for 19 caused turnovers and maintaining consistent pressure throughout.
Head Coach Logan Otto praised his team's continued growth and focus as they navigate the heart of conference play.
"As we continue through conference play, we're gaining experiences that make us stronger as a unit," said Otto. "Our team continues to work hard, and we're hoping to take this momentum with us as we get closer to the postseason."
The Pioneers return to action on Saturday, April 12th at 1 PM at Pat Deacon Stadium, where they'll celebrate Senior Day before facing HCLC opponent Earlham College.
