LEXINGTON, KY - The Transylvania Pioneers kicked off their three-game series against Hanover with a commanding 14-0 victory in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader at Legends Field. With this win, Transylvania improved their record to 17-13 overall and 10-5 in the conference, while Hanover fell to 12-19 overall and 8-8 in conference play. Â
Transylvania's offense exploded for 16 hits. The Pioneers opened the scoring in the fourth inning with 2 runs. The fifth inning saw a massive offensive surge, with Transylvania adding 9 runs. They rounded out their scoring with 2 runs in the sixth and 1 in the seventh. Â
Key offensive contributions came from multiple Pioneers: Baxter Tedesco went 3 for 5 with 2 RBIs and 2 doubles, Calvin Schubert was 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs and a double, Henry Mitcham drove in 3 runs and hit a double while going 1 for 5, Chris Hedinger contributed a home run and 2 RBIs, Ethan Dillon went 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs and a double, Trevor Watkins had a strong performance at the plate, going 3 for 4, Houston Manning went 2 for 3, and Seita Shiratori added an RBI and a hit.
Transylvania also showcased their speed on the base paths with five stolen bases. Calvin Schubert had two stolen bases, while Henry Mitcham, Austin Taylor, and Ethan Dillon each had one. Â
On the pitching side, Drew Bowles delivered a dominant performance for Transylvania, earning the win (4-1). He pitched a complete game, allowing only 6 hits and 4 walks while striking out 9 Hanover batters. Â
The Pioneers will face Hanover for game 3 of the series to attempt the sweep.
