Pioneers Fall To Rhodes In NCAA Tournament

MEMPHIS, TN - Transylvania University fell to Rhodes in the opening round of the 2025 NCAA National Tournament on Wednesday in Memphis, 18-13.

Transylvania put their offense on display early, scoring six goals in the opening period. Huck Campbell assisted Josh Harney on the opening goal for the Pioneers, followed by a goal from Alex Madson just seconds later as Transylvania took a 2-1 lead. Just over thirty seconds later, Jack Miller scored as the Pioneers continued their strong start. Campbell would score to take Transylvania's lead to 4-1 before Rhodes responded with a goal from Gavin Nagle and a goal in the closing minutes of the opening period from John Mori. Luke Larish ended the Rhodes run, but it would be Harney that scored the final goal of the period, with less than thirty seconds remaining, to take the 6-3 lead into the second period.

Rhodes scored two goals in the opening minutes of the second period to cut the lead down to one, before tying and taking the lead with two additional goals. Rohan Savalia ended the 4-0 Rhodes run, with Campbell scoring again to tie the score at 8-8. Rhodes took a one goal lead into the halftime break.

Rhodes scored again to start the third period, but Harney would keep the Pioneers in reach, scoring a minute later to keep Transylvania within one. Rhodes would then score three consecutive goals to lead 13-9, Campbell responded with a goal but Rhodes responded with two additional goals, leaving the third period with a 15-11 lead. Rhodes scored three additional goals to start the fourth period before Madson ended the run with a goal. Larish scored in the final minute, but Rhodes would hold on for the 18-13 victory.

Transylvania ends the 2025 campaign with a record of 11-6, undefeated in the HCAC, earning the HCAC Regular Season and Conference Championships.
