Pioneers Outlasted In Day One of Transy Invitational

LEXINGTON, KY - Transylvania opened day one of the Transy Invite at the Clive M. Beck Center on Friday, falling to Wartburg College 3-1, and Berry College 3-0. 

Game One: Transy 1, Wartburg 3

Transylvania started strong with a 25-15 opening set victory. The Pioneers jumped out to an 8-2 advantage with kills from Isabella Myers, Addie Atcher, Clara Rogers and Cecelia Roberts. Wartburg would respond with a rally in the second set with a 25-16 set two victory. Transylvania opened with a 7-1 advantage in set two, but Wartburg would respond with four consecutive points. They would utilize another four point run to take the lead at 10-8. Leading 17-15, Wartburg would rally a seven point run to take a 24-15 lead, closing set two with the victory. Set three came down to the a competitive exchange with the Pioneers within reach of the set victory, including a late three point rally to trim the deficit to one, 22-23, but two consecutive kills from Wartburg would close the set for Wartburg. The fourth set would echo the third, with both teams competing to close out one another in the final exchanges. Transylvania led 24-20 late in the set, however Wartburg would score six consecutive points to close the fourth set, claiming the 3-1 victory. 

Myers led the Pioneers with 26 kills in game one, Atcher added eight and Roberts added seven. Macy Lentz recorded 43 assists, while Julia Brown added 15 digs. 

Game Two: Transy 0, Berry 3

Berry took the opening set 25-19, scoring six of the final seven points of the set. In set two, Berry took an early 16-5 advantage that they would hold on to, claiming a 25-11 set two victory. Berry would continue their offensive performance, taking a 15-8 lead in the third set. Transylvania would rally, cutting the deficit to six, but Berry would respond with six straight points to put the set out of reach late. Berry claimed the victory 25-13 in set three, and 3-0 for the final. 

Lentz recorded 20 assists, while Brown added 19 digs.

The 2025 Transy Invite continues Saturday at the Clive M. Beck Center, with the Pioneers taking on Wittenberg at 12:30 p.m. and the University of Olivet at 5:30.
