NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. — Transylvania University men's and women's cross country competed Saturday afternoon at the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships, hosted by Manchester University in North Manchester, Indiana.
The Pioneer women opened competition at noon in the 6,000-meter race, finishing fourth overall with 109 points. Sophomore Ella Detjen led Transylvania with a seventh-place finish, while first-year Sophie Bolin followed in 16th. Both runners earned All-Conference honors for their performances.
On the men's side, the Pioneers competed in the 8,000-meter race at 1 p.m., delivering a strong performance highlighted by two personal-best times and a significant season-best effort.
Following the meet, Head Coach Matt Andrews reflected on the performances of both teams.
"A bit of a split day for our teams today as the men had a very positive outing while the women had a fairly disappointing performance. Conference championships are always filled with high pressure, emotional moments and I don't think we were our best selves in many of those moments today. Still plenty left to prove to ourselves for both groups at regionals!" said Andrews.
Transylvania will return to competition on November 14 in East Lansing, Michigan, for the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional Championships.
