Eleven Pioneers Score In Victory Over Piedmont

NASHVILLE, TENN. — Transylvania delivered a dominant offensive performance on Friday afternoon, defeating Piedmont 18–10 to improve to 1–1 on the season.

The Pioneers placed 11 different players in the scoring column, led by Andrew Welch and Charlie Horner, who each recorded four goals. Huck Campbell powered the offense with two goals and a game-high six assists, finishing with eight total points. Jack Miller added a goal and two assists, while Andrew Mazy, Samuel Archer, Jack McKiernan, RJ Young, Briggs Beck, Ben Gaccino, and Jaxon Eldridge each found the back of the net.

Transylvania built momentum early, scoring three goals in a two-minute stretch during the first quarter before taking a 4–3 lead into the second. The Pioneers broke the game open in the second period, outscoring Piedmont 7–1 to carry an 11–4 advantage into halftime. Horner scored twice during the surge, while Campbell and McKiernan added key finishes.

The offensive pressure continued in the third quarter, as Transylvania extended its lead to 16–8 entering the final period. Welch netted two goals in the quarter, and Beck and Eldridge added tallies to maintain control.

After Piedmont cut the deficit to 16–9 early in the fourth quarter, Samuel Archer converted on a man-up opportunity to push the lead to 17–9. Piedmont later scored on a man-up goal of its own to make it 17–10, but Charlie Horner responded with a man-up finish in the final minute to seal the 18–10 victory.

Transylvania outshot Piedmont 59–27 and held a commanding 49–32 edge in ground balls. The Pioneers also dominated at the faceoff stripe, winning 21 of 31 draws. In goal, Nick DeGrandi earned the win with eight goals allowed and one save over 45 minutes, while Ethan Kroll played the final 15 minutes and recorded one save.

With the win, Transylvania improves to 1–1 on the season.

The Pioneers return to action tomorrow, taking on Illinois Institute of Technology at 2:00 in Nashville.
