CINCINNATI, OH — Transylvania earned a hard-fought 72–67 road victory over Mount St. Joseph on Saturday afternoon inside the Harrington Center.
Hunter Barr delivered a dominant performance, scoring a game-high 32 points on 14-of-20 shooting while adding 11 rebounds for a double-double. Ian Reesor contributed 14 points and four assists, and Luke Idlett added eight points, including four free throws in the final 18 seconds to secure the win.
The two teams battled through a tightly contested first half that featured just one lead change and two ties. Mount St. Joseph built an early 10-point advantage midway through the opening period, but Transylvania responded behind Barr's interior scoring to close the gap. The Pioneers erased the deficit late in the half, tying the game at 31–31 heading into the break.
Transylvania seized control early in the second half, using an 8–2 stretch to take a 41–33 lead. Barr continued to anchor the offense in the paint, and a fast-break three from Jaxon Smith pushed the margin to eight midway through the period. The Pioneers extended their lead to as many as 14 points before Mount St. Joseph mounted a late push.
The Lions trimmed the deficit to three in the final seconds, but Idlett calmly converted four straight free throws to seal the 72–67 victory.
Transylvania shot 51 percent from the field and scored 46 points in the paint while forcing 15 Mount St. Joseph turnovers and converting them into 22 points.
With the win, Transylvania improves to 16–8 overall and 13–4 in HCAC play.
The Pioneers return to action Wednesday as conference play continues.
