Transylvania Defeats MSJ, Claims HCAC Regular Season Championship

CINCINNATI, OH — Transylvania picked up a key HCAC road victory on Saturday afternoon, defeating Mount St. Joseph 66–50 inside the Harrington Center. With the win, Transylvania claimed the 2025-26 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Regular Season Championship. 

Sierra Kemelgor led the Pioneers with a game-high 23 points on 9-of-15 shooting, including two three-pointers, while adding seven rebounds and two steals. Riley Flinn recorded a double-double with 17 points and nine rebounds, and Keaton Hall contributed nine points and six boards. Makya Grinter added six points and four steals as Transylvania controlled the game defensively.

The first half featured seven lead changes and three ties, with the Pioneers holding a narrow 27–25 advantage at the break. After Mount St. Joseph tied the contest early in the third quarter, Transylvania delivered the decisive run of the game. Kemelgor sparked the surge with back-to-back three-pointers and a pair of free throws, helping the Pioneers outscore the Lions 23–12 in the third period to take a 50–37 lead into the fourth.

Transylvania maintained control throughout the final quarter, stretching the lead to as many as 18 points following a three-pointer from Mackenzie Lombardi with just over a minute remaining. The Pioneers finished with 40 points in the paint and a 35–23 rebounding advantage while limiting Mount St. Joseph to 37.5 percent shooting from the field.

Transylvania improves to 20–4 overall and 15–2 in HCAC play.

The Pioneers close out the regular season on Wednesday with a 7:00 p.m. tip-off at Hanover.
