LEXINGTON, KY — Transylvania opened postseason play with a strong performance on Saturday afternoon, defeating Hanover 70–48 in the HCAC Tournament quarterfinals at the Clive M. Beck Center.
Riley Flinn powered the Pioneers with 17 points on 5-of-10 shooting from three-point range. Sierra Kemelgor added 16 points, four assists, and two steals, while Chloe McKnight posted 12 points and seven rebounds. Makya Grinter recorded seven points and three steals, and Raegan Barrett added six points and four boards. Hannah Glisson directed the offense with a game-high eight assists.
Transylvania trailed 35-31 entering the halftime break and trailed by as many as nine in the first half, but the Pioneers stormed back in the second half. Grinter knocked down a three-point field goal to open the third quarter. Flinn would follow, scoring back to back three-pointers to take the lead for Transylvania. Hannah Glisson and Kemelgor each knocked down a three-pointer in the final minutes of the third quarter as the Pioneers pushed their lead to 16 entering the fourth.Â
The Pioneers maintained full control in the final quarter, pushing the margin to as many as 25 points after back-to-back baskets from McKnight. Transylvania's defense stifled Hanover throughout the game, holding the Panthers to 1-of-9 shooting from beyond the arc while forcing 22 turnovers. The Pioneers connected on 13 three-pointers and held a 36–27 edge on the glass in the win.
With the victory, Transylvania improves to 22–4 overall, 16-2 in the HCAC, and advances to the HCAC Tournament semifinals next week at the Clive M. Beck Center. Stay tuned to TransySports.com for HCAC Tournament updates.Â
