Welch’s Overtime Winner Sends Transylvania Past Penn College, 14-13

LEXINGTON, KY — Transylvania defeated Penn College 14–13 in sudden death overtime at Pat Deacon Stadium.

The Pioneers were led by Jack Miller, who scored five goals in the win. Transylvania finished with 42 shots, including 10 on goal, while recording 12 saves and committing three turnovers. The Pioneers also posted 24 clears and 17 ground balls.

Jaxon Eldridge opened the scoring for Transylvania early in the first period. Jack Miller then scored his first goal to give the Pioneers a 2-1 lead. Miller added another goal before Penn responded with two goals to take a 4-3 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Miller scored two more goals during the second quarter, but the Wildcats added three goals in the period to take a 7-6 lead into halftime. Transylvania recorded 21 shots in the first half, including 15 on goal.

Penn extended its lead early in the third period with two goals to make it 9-6. Huck Campbell responded with two quick goals for the Pioneers to cut the Wildcats' lead to one. Jack Miller then scored his fifth goal of the game to tie the contest at 9-9. Penn answered with another goal to take a 10-9 lead into the fourth quarter.

Penn scored first in the final period before Charlie Horner found the net for the Pioneers to make it 11-10. Andrew Welch scored his first goal of the afternoon to tie the game at 11-11. After Penn regained the lead, Josh Harney scored his second goal to even the score at 12-12 with five minutes remaining.

The Pioneers took the lead with less than two minutes left when Samuel Archer scored to make it 13-12. However, the Wildcats responded with a late goal to force sudden death overtime. Andrew Welch scored the game-winning goal for the Pioneers in sudden death.

The win improves Transylvania to 4-2 on the season. The Pioneers return home on Saturday, March 14, 2026 to face DePauw University. Face-off is set for 1:00 PM.
