ST. LOUIS, MO — Transylvania dropped a 9–4 decision to Washington (Mo.) on Friday afternoon at Irv Utz Stadium.

The Pioneers struck first in the opening inning when Calvin Schubert drove in Nick Pietromonaco with a groundout to give Transylvania an early 1–0 lead. Washington responded with runs in the second and third innings before the Pioneers answered in the fifth. Schubert delivered an RBI single and Baxter Tedesco followed with an RBI single to briefly put Transylvania back in front, 3–2.

Washington regained the lead in the bottom of the fifth and continued to add insurance runs late to secure the victory.

Schubert led the Pioneer offense with three hits and two RBI, while Chris Hedinger and Baxter Tedesco each recorded two hits. Pietromonaco scored three of Transylvania's four runs in the game.

Drew Bowles took the loss on the mound, striking out seven over five innings while allowing four runs. Henry Craig pitched three innings in relief and recorded two strikeouts.
