LOUISVILLE, KY — Transylvania defeated MSOE in two matchups held at Legacy Field on the campus of Spalding University on Thursday.
Game One: Transylvania 3, MSOE 2
Transylvania held off MSOE for a 3–2 victory on Thursday afternoon at Legacy Field.
The Pioneers broke through in the third inning as Avery Parsons tripled and scored on an RBI single from Malana Hamm. Ella Steczynski followed with an RBI single to give Transylvania a 2–0 lead.
Transylvania added what proved to be the game-winning run in the fifth inning when Parsons doubled and later scored on a sacrifice fly from Emilie Young to extend the lead to 3–0.
MSOE plated two runs in the sixth inning, but the Pioneer pitching staff closed the door late. Maddie Goddard earned the win, allowing no runs over 3.2 innings with five strikeouts, while Trinity Bridges recorded seven strikeouts over 3.1 innings to secure the victory.
Parsons led the offense with two hits and two runs scored, while Steczynski went a perfect 3-for-3 with an RBI. Hamm also added an RBI in the win.
Game Two: Transylvania 6, MSOE 5
Transylvania earned a 6–5 extra-inning victory over MSOE on Thursday evening at Legacy Fields.
The Pioneers struck first in the opening inning when Avery Parsons scored on an RBI fielder's choice from Raegan Gibson. After MSOE tied the game in the sixth, Transylvania responded with a two-run sixth inning highlighted by a two-RBI single from Kailey Goetz to take a 3–1 lead.
MSOE rallied in the seventh inning, scoring three runs to take a 4–3 advantage. Transylvania answered in the bottom of the inning as Parsons delivered an RBI single to tie the game at 4–4.
In the eighth, MSOE plated a run to regain the lead before the Pioneers responded in the bottom half. Ella Steczynski reached and advanced into scoring position before Goetz delivered a walk-off two-RBI single to secure the 6–5 win.
Goetz led the offense with four RBI, while Steczynski went 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Parsons added two hits, an RBI and scored a run.
Natalie Contreras earned the win in relief, while Raegan Gibson tossed six innings with one earned run allowed.
