Transylvania Defeats Trine In Thriller

LEXINGTON, KY- Transylvania defeated Trine, 14-13, at Pat Deacon Stadium.

The Pioneers were led by Layla Hobbs-Powell, who scored five goals in the win.Transylvania finished with 38 shots, including 24 on goal, while making six saves and committing eight turnovers. The Pioneers also recorded 23 clears and 16 ground balls. After giving up three early goals, Kaelin Truman got the Pioneers on the scoreboard. Trine were leading 4-1 over the Pioneers at the end of the first quarter. 

Transylvania was making a comeback in the early second quarter with two goals by Grace Bruner. Sofie Garrett scored her first goal with five minutes remaining in the half to cut the deficit to 5-4. With less two minutes remaining in the half, Layla Hobbs-Powell scored her first goal before Trine scored to make the halftime score 7-5. 

While Trine scored first after halftime before Bruner scored her third goal to make the score 8-6. Hobbs-Powell scored twice  to make the score 9-8. Truman scored the equalizer goal to tied the game at 9 apiece with less than three minutes remaining in the third quarter. Trine scored once more to make the score 10-9 after third quarters.

Garrett scored her second goal to make the score 11-11 with less than 10 minutes remaining. The Pioneers took their first lead of the afternoon with a goal by Presley Helton. Truman scored again for the Pioneers before the Thunder scored to make the score 13-12 going into the last five minutes of action. Transylvania retake the lead with Hobbs-Powell scored her fifth goal on the afternoon. The Pioneers hold on to take the  14-13 win over the Thunder. 

The win improves Transylvania to 6-7 on the season. The Pioneers return home on Saturday, April 11, to face Hanover College. Face-off is set for 4:00 p.m.
