LEXINGTON, KY — Transylvania split a Saturday doubleheader at Legends Field, securing a 5–2 victory in the afternoon before falling 12–11 in a dramatic 11-inning marathon to close the series against Hanover.
In the first game of the day, Giancarlo Gonzalez was stellar on the mound, throwing seven strong innings while allowing just two runs on six hits. Transylvania broke through in the sixth inning on an RBI double from Calvin Schubert before adding another run in the seventh on a passed ball to take a 2–0 lead.
After Hanover tied the game with two runs in the top of the eighth, the Pioneers responded immediately in the bottom half. Brenton Alcorn drew an RBI walk to regain the lead, and Baxter Tedesco followed with a two-run single to secure the 5–2 win.
The nightcap proved to be a back-and-forth thriller that saw five lead changes. Transylvania trailed early but surged ahead with a five-run eighth inning to take an 11–5 lead. However, Hanover refused to go away, scoring six runs in the top of the ninth to force extra innings.
The deadlock continued until the 11th inning when Hanover's Michael Kirk drove in the go-ahead run with an RBI single. Despite racking up 13 hits in the contest, the Pioneers were unable to answer in the bottom of the frame.
Hedinger led the offense with four hits, including a home run, triple, and three RBI. Dillon added two hits, including a home run, and drove in two, while Watkins contributed a home run and two RBI.
On the mound, the Pioneers used multiple arms in the contest. Henry Craig provided a steady middle relief outing, tossing four innings with five strikeouts while allowing just one run.
With the series win, Transylvania improves to 18–9 on the season.
