Softball Sweeps Doubleheader at Rose-Hulman

TERRE HAUTE, IN — Transylvania defeated Rose-Hulman in a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) doubleheader on Monday, taking the first game 10–2 in five innings. 

The Pioneers used big second and third innings to take control early, scoring four runs in the second and adding six more in the third to build a commanding lead.

Ella Steczynski led the offensive effort with two hits and three RBI, while Emilie Young recorded three hits and drove in two runs. Malana Hamm added two hits and two RBI, and Emily Shearer collected two doubles and scored twice. Lexi Morlan also contributed an RBI in the win.

In the circle, Raegan Gibson earned the win, allowing two runs over two innings of work. Jessica Strickland started the game with two scoreless innings, and Natalie Contreras closed it out with a scoreless fifth inning.

The Pioneers used timely hitting late to secure the win in game two, scoring two runs in the seventh inning to break a 4–4 tie.

After taking an early lead, Transylvania saw Rose-Hulman rally to even the score in the sixth inning. The Pioneers responded in the seventh, as Avery Parsons singled and later scored on an RBI groundout from Kailey Goetz before Raegan Gibson delivered an RBI double to extend the lead.

Gibson led the offense with a perfect 4-for-4 performance, including a double and three RBI. Parsons added three hits and scored twice, while Ella Steczynski recorded two hits. Lexi Morlan and Goetz each drove in a run in the win.

In the circle, Trinity Bridges earned the win in relief, striking out five over 2.1 innings. Natalie Contreras recorded the save, tossing 1.2 scoreless innings to close out the game. Maddie Goddard started and allowed two runs over three innings.

Transylvania improves to 24–6 on the season and 8-2 in the HCAC.
