Andy Steed Takes Lead After Day One At HCAC Conference Championship

Steed Takes Day One Lead as Pioneers Open Play at Boone’s Trace

RICHMOND, KY – The Transylvania men's golf team opened play at the Boone's Trace National Golf Club – The Bull on Friday, highlighted by a standout performance from freshman Andy Steed (Wilmington, OH), who sits atop the individual leaderboard after Day One.

Steed fired an even-par 72 to take the tournament lead, putting together a composed and consistent round from start to finish. He carded a 34 on the front nine and followed with a 38 on the back, using steady play and timely birdies to separate himself from the field and claim the solo lead heading into Saturday.

The Pioneers saw strong support behind their freshman leader. William Carr turned in a 73 (+1), delivering a well-rounded round that kept him within striking distance. Tom Buchert matched Carr with a 73 (+1), rebounding nicely after a slow start to post one of Transylvania's top scores of the day.

Connor Calhoun added a 75 (+3), while Ty Ruttinger rounded out the lineup with an 82 (+10).

With Steed leading the field and multiple Pioneers in contention, Transylvania is well-positioned heading into Round Two at Boone's Trace.
