HCAC: Transylvania Advances With Win Over MSJ

KOKOMO, Ind. — Transylvania University softball continued its postseason run with a 10-5 victory over Mount St. Joseph University Thursday evening in Kokomo.  

The Pioneers improved to 33-9 overall with the win after collecting 17 hits in a strong offensive performance. Mount St. Joseph moved to 27-12 on the season.  

Transylvania scored in the opening inning after Avery Parsons singled and eventually came home on a wild pitch. The Pioneers added another run in the second when Lexi Morlan scored on an RBI single from Ella Steczynski to make it 2-0.  

The offense broke through in the third inning as Raegan Gibson blasted a two-run home run to center field after a dropped foul ball extended the at-bat.  

Transylvania continued to add on in the fourth inning with three more runs. Emilie Young delivered an RBI single, Kailey Goetz added an RBI double and Emily Shearer followed with an RBI single to extend the lead to 7-2.  

Mount St. Joseph trimmed the deficit to 8-5 after the fifth inning, but the Pioneers answered in the sixth when Taylor Ingram launched a two-run home run to center field to provide the final margin.  

Gibson finished 3-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs, while Ingram also drove in two runs and collected three hits. Goetz went 3-for-4 with a double, RBI and walk, while Young added two hits and two RBIs. Parsons and Morlan each recorded two hits in the victory.  

Natalie Contreras earned the win in relief, tossing 3.2 innings while allowing two runs, one earned, and striking out one. Maddie Goddard started the game for the Pioneers, while Trinity Bridges also appeared in relief.  

Up next, Transylvania will face Earlham College on Friday, May 8th at 5:30 p.m. in the HCAC Tournament.
