KOKOMO, IN — After falling 10-0 in their first match up of the day on Saturday against Earlham, Transylvania University Softball advanced in the HCAC Tournament with a 10-6 win over Bluffton University Friday afternoon in Kokomo.
The Pioneers improved to 34-10 overall after erupting for seven runs in the third inning to take control of the game. After Bluffton grabbed a 3-2 lead in the top half of the inning, Transylvania answered with six hits in the bottom of the frame, highlighted by RBI doubles from Raegan Gibson and Anna Russelburg, a run-scoring triple from Taylor Ingram and an RBI single from Emily Shearer.
Gibson finished 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs, while Avery Parsons went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Ella Steczynski added two hits, including a triple and double, while Russelburg drove in two runs.
Gibson earned the win in the circle, allowing five runs over five innings with three strikeouts, while Natalie Contreras tossed the final two innings in relief.
Transylvania will take on Earlham in a rematch on Sunday at 11:00 a.m. in Kokomo.
