LEXINGTON, KY – Transylvania University Field Hockey opened the 2026 season on Tuesday evening at Pat Deacon Stadium, falling 9-0 to Sewanee.
Sewanee jumped out to a 3-0 advantage in the opening quarter and added three more goals in the second to take a 6-0 lead into halftime. The Tigers finished the contest with a 25-1 advantage in shots and an 8-2 edge in penalty corners.
"Tough result tonight, but this is part of building something new. We're a young group learning how to compete together, and there will be moments like this along the way," said Head Coach Erin McCrudden. "What matters now is how we respond. We'll learn from it, get back to work, and continue building the standard we want this program to be known for."
Goalkeeper Connie Phelps recorded five saves for the Pioneers, while Lucy Cohen added a defensive save and recorded Transylvania's lone shot of the evening. Transylvania moves to 0-1 on the season.
The Pioneers return to action next week as they host Ohio Wesleyan at Pat Deacon Stadium on Tuesday, September 8th at 4 p.m.
