ROME, GEORGIA
— Transylvania University volleyball earned a straight-set victory over Oglethorpe on Friday, defeating the Stormy Petrels 26-24, 25-16, 25-14 at The Cage Center. The win moved the Pioneers to 3-6 on the season.
Transylvania opened the match with a tightly contested first set. The Pioneers came away with a 26-24 victory before taking control of the match with a 25-16 win in the second. Transylvania closed out the sweep with a 25-14 victory in the third. The Pioneers turned in an efficient offensive performance, finishing with 35 kills and just seven attack errors on 82 attempts for a .341 hitting percentage. Transylvania was particularly effective in the opening set, recording 15 kills with only one error to hit .412.
Addie Atcher led the attack with 10 kills and no errors on 19 attempts, hitting .526.
Payton Avilez followed with nine kills while hitting .300 and added nine digs.
Cecelia Roberts recorded six kills without an error on seven attempts for a .857 hitting percentage while also contributing three service aces.
Transylvania also applied pressure from the service line, finishing with 13 aces. Roberts and
Julia Brown recorded three apiece, while
Megan Sweeney,
Erin Thomas and
Megan Helander each added two. Brown led the defensive effort with 10 digs.
Megan Sweeney had a strong performance in her return to action for the Pioneers, making her first appearance since the 2024 season. She led Transylvania with 14 assists while Thomas added seven. The Pioneers held Oglethorpe to a .183 hitting percentage and 29 kills for the match.
Transylvania continues this weekend with two Saturday match ups at the Berry Invitational. The Pios will take on #14 Emory at 11:00 a.m. and Randolph-Macon at 1:30 p.m.
