ROME, GA. — Transylvania University volleyball fell to #14 Emory University in three sets Friday at The Cage Center, with the Eagles taking the match 25-17, 25-18, 25-20. The result moved the Pioneers to 3-7 on the season.
Transylvania battled through a competitive opening set before Emory pulled away for a 25-17 victory. The Eagles followed with a 25-18 win in the second before closing the match 25-20 in the third.
Addie Atcher led the Transylvania attack with 12 kills and just two errors on 23 attempts, hitting .435 for the match. Peyton Mast added eight kills and five digs, while Payton Avilez finished with six kills. Cecelia Roberts recorded five kills without an error on nine attempts for a .556 hitting percentage.
Megan Sweeney directed the Pioneer offense with 27 assists while adding three digs. Julia Brown led Transylvania defensively with 11 digs, while Soleil Sabin recorded seven. Reece Houston and Megan Helander each added six digs, with Houston also accounting for both of the Pioneers' service aces.
Transylvania improved offensively as the match progressed. After hitting .167 in the first and .147 in the second, the Pioneers recorded 14 kills against four errors in the third set to hit .270. Transylvania finished with 35 kills on 101 attempts and a .198 hitting percentage.
