ROME, GA. — Transylvania University volleyball continued its weekend with a four-set victory over Randolph-Macon on Saturday, defeating the Yellow Jackets 25-14, 25-22, 16-25, 25-20. The victory moved the Pioneers to 4-7 on the season.
Transylvania set the tone with a strong opening set, recording 15 kills while hitting .333 en route to a 25-14 victory. The Pioneers followed with a 25-22 win in the second to take a 2-0 advantage in the match. Randolph-Macon responded with a 25-16 victory in the third before Transylvania closed the match with a 25-20 win in the fourth.
Addie Atcher led the Transylvania attack with 19 kills on 43 attempts while hitting .349. Payton Avilez added nine kills, while Peyton Mast finished with eight kills and hit .227. Logan Dunham provided an efficient performance with six kills and just one error on 11 attempts for a .455 hitting percentage. Cecelia Roberts also added six kills.
Megan Sweeney directed the Pioneer offense with 25 assists while adding nine digs and a service ace. Erin Thomas contributed 14 assists and seven digs. Defensively, Reece Houston led Transylvania with 15 digs, while Julia Brown followed with 14. Brown also recorded three service aces and seven assists. The Pioneers finished with eight aces as a team.
Transylvania finished the match with 50 kills on 137 attempts and a .212 hitting percentage while holding Randolph-Macon to a .180 hitting percentage. After being held to seven kills in the third set, the Pioneers responded with their best offensive total of the match in the fourth, putting down 16 kills and hitting .316 to secure the victory.
The Pioneers return to the Clive M. Beck Center on Tuesday, September 22nd to host Wittenberg at 6:00 p.m.
