LEXINGTON, KY
— Transylvania University volleyball battled Wittenberg University Tuesday night at the Clive M. Beck Center, falling in three closely contested sets, 21-25, 20-25, 24-26. The result moved the Pioneers to 4-8 on the season.
The Pioneers stayed within striking distance throughout the night, with the match featuring 26 tie scores and 11 lead changes. Transylvania pushed Wittenberg throughout the opening set before the Tigers took a 25-21 win, followed by a 25-20 result in the second. The third featured 10 ties before Wittenberg edged Transylvania 26-24 to close the match.
Addie Atcher led the Pioneer attack with nine kills on 35 attempts.
Payton Avilez followed with seven kills and seven digs, while
Peyton Mast recorded six kills without an attack error on 18 attempts to hit .333.
Cecelia Roberts also hit .333, finishing with five kills on 12 attempts and adding two service aces.
Erin Thomas led Transylvania with 16 assists and added two service aces and five digs.
Megan Sweeney contributed 11 assists, two aces and five digs.
Megan Helander led the defensive effort with 14 digs, while
Reece Houston added six.
Transylvania finished with 32 kills, 32 assists, seven service aces and 49 digs while hitting .134 for the match. The Pioneers' strongest attacking percentage came in the opening set, when they recorded 12 kills and hit .184.
