LEXINGTON, Ky. — Transylvania University volleyball fell to Otterbein University in three sets Friday evening at the Clive M. Beck Center, with the Cardinals taking the match 25-20, 25-19, 25-12. The result moved the Pioneers to 6-9 on the season.
Transylvania battled through a competitive opening set, recording 13 kills and hitting .211 before Otterbein pulled away for a 25-20 victory. The second set featured seven ties and five lead changes before the Cardinals took a 25-19 win. Otterbein closed the match with a 25-12 victory in the third.
Addie Atcher led the Pioneer attack with a match-high 13 kills while committing just three errors on 26 attempts for a .385 hitting percentage. Atcher also contributed two block assists. Payton Avilez followed with five kills, while Peyton Mast recorded four kills and hit .214.
Megan Sweeney directed the Transylvania offense with 16 assists, while Erin Thomas added nine. Megan Helander led the Pioneers defensively with nine digs and also recorded two assists and a service ace. Thomas finished with seven digs, while Soleil Sabin added five digs and an ace.
Transylvania finished the match with 30 kills on 98 attempts and a .153 hitting percentage. The Pioneers recorded 29 assists, three service aces and 34 digs. Otterbein finished with 50 kills and hit .373 for the match.
