EVANSVILLE, IN -  Friday morning, the Pioneers traveled to Evansville, Indiana to race in the Angel Mounds Invitational against a very competitive field, consisting of mostly Division 1 schools.  Their last meet before the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Championships, this was a great last chance for the Pioneers to hone their racing skills. The women's team had their best collective race of the season, showcasing lots of PR's. Freshman Ella Detjen led the team, running a PR of 22:43.30. Maggie Simmons also had a great race, dropping 50 seconds off her previous PR, with a time of 25:34.03. 

On the men's side, they also had their best race collectively of the season. They found each other throughout the race and packed up well, helping each other move through the field. Having this performance as a team sets them up well for conference championships. 

Head Coach Matt Andrews was proud of how his teams competed, noting an improvement in times across the board. 

"I'm very pleased with how both teams performed and executed today," said Andrews. "There were several components of our race we were looking to focus on following a bit of a disappointing result two weeks ago. We showed tons of improvement in those areas today which led to some great performances across the board."

The Pioneers return to action at the HCAC Championships in Shelbyville, Indiana on Saturday, November 1st.
