The Pioneers are back out on the grass for the 2025 cross country season, opening with the Berea/ Centre Jamboree at Berea College. The women's team had a decent overall showing, finishing fourth as a team by barely losing in a tiebreaker with Berea.
Freshman Ella Detjen was a massive standout of this race, placing second overall and running an all time personal best of 18:54.30. On the men's side, there was a mixed bag of performances. Freshman Xander Harris led the way for the team in 44th place.
When asked how he thought this opener sets up the team for the rest of the season, Head Coach Matt Andrews said, "An opener after months away from racing is always a good stimulus to remind our team that racing hurts and that it's challenging to execute under stress. Now that we have the first one on the board, we can really start to develop the skill of making quality race decisions while being under pressure. How well we develop that skill will be a big determining factor of how much success our team can have this season".
The Pioneers are back in action on Saturday, September 13th as they travel to Hanover College to race in the Hanover Invitational.
